Candida - What is it?

Are you feeling heavy, sluggish, have mental dullness, fluid retention or excess mucous?  You may well have an overgrowth of candida, a yeast-like fungi in the body.

A healthy digestive system has ample 'Lactobacillus acidophilus', as well as other intestinal micro-organisms which are indispensible to proper nutrient absorption.

It is normal to have some candida present in the digestive tract. High levels of candida exist in individuals with weak immune systems.

Candida may also appear on any part of the body ie under arms, the nails, the mouth, genitals (vagina and penis) and between the toes.

So what happens with an overgrowth of candida?

When candida overgrows in the digestive tract, it has the opposite effect.  It inhibits proper assimilation of essential amino acids and other nutrients ie minerals.

Candidiasis will then go on to weaken immunity and the entire body.

Candida does not always confine itself to the digestive tract.  Systemic candida occurs when it slips through the weakened areas in the gut lining or spreads through the anus into sexual organs (especially in women). From there is gets into the blood stream and other body tissues.

Toxic by-products of the normal metabolic processes of systemic candida   stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies.  It follows, that in serious yeast infections, candida will tax the immune system to the point where it cannot respond to invading viruses or other harmful substances.

So if you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and lupus as well as dis-ease of immune devastation such as AIDS and cancer, the way has been opened up by the slowly weakening and ultimate breakdown of your immunity.

Effects of this yeast induced systemic poisoning may also cause allergic reactions to minor environmental or dietary toxins.  In these cases, when the condition is allowed to progress, you can become hyper-allergic and react to almost everything.

There are suggestions that systemic candida may be life-threatening if untreated and the thought is that it could be the cause of death in AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) and many other viral-related degenerative illnesses.
